Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

A Fulfilling Marriage

Surely  all believers would agree that a fulfilling marriage is one that is lived according to the will of God.

The Scripture passage dealing most thoroughly with marriage is Paul statement in Ephesians 5:22-32.

The passage begins with the following statement:

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church

The passage goes on to say that husbands are to love their wives enough to die for them. Husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies.

Paul then adds in verse 29:

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church

Paul quotes from Genesis that a man is to leave his father and mother and to be joined to his wife.

How do husbands and wives live up to this high standard? It can be done. Wives who are living out the five commands of Romans 6:11-13 can be submissive to their husbands.

Husbands who live out the five commands are filled with God’s love and light and therefore will live out the imperatives of Ephesians 5:22-33.
