Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Delighting Ourselves in The Lord

Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.  Psalm 37:4

The verse is saying that we should find our pleasure, our joy, our fulfillment in the Lord.

When we delight ourselves in the Lord, we continually want to know Him better. And we can. Consider a statement Jesus made about the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. John 16:14-15

These verses produce in the heart of one who delights in the Lord a great desire to be filled with the Spirit who explains the Father and the Son. Throughout the lifetime of one who receives the filling of the Holy Spirit, he will have a growing knowledge of God the Father and God the Son.

When we delight ourselves in the Lord, we desire to spend time with Him. The blood of Jesus has opened the door to that possibility (Hebrews 10:19-22).

By living in fellowship with the Lord, we experience an increasing shift in our hearts from what we desire to what He desires. Extended periods of fellowship with Him, lead to both a continual change of our desires to His desires and an increasing knowledge of Him. First John 1:7 provides guidance about fellowship with God. It says:

… if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another …

There is no better way to walk in the light than experiencing God as crucified, buried and resurrected. This enables us to come to God from our enthroned position in the heavenly places free of our point of view and open to His point of view (Colossians 3:1-4).

God does anything He desires to do when He chooses to do it. With His desires being our desires, He continually gives us the desires of our hearts resulting in a life of fulfillment.
