Do You Need to Learn Patience?

The answer to the above question is, “No.”

If the question had been, “Do you need patience,” the answer would be, “Yes.”

It is probably a common experience for you to hear someone say, “I need to learn patience.” They are admitting their need for patience. They are expressing a belief that it is something they can make happen themselves.

There is a better way. Read the words of the Apostle Paul to the church at Galatia.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness … Galatians 5:22a (NIV)

In Ephesians 5:18, Paul commands us to be filled with the Spirit. He knows that for one of God’s children to be filled with the Spirit, is for that one to be filled with all that the Holy Spirit produces.

And the Holy Spirit produces patience.

What a burden is taken from us when we know that we do not have to attempt to produce our own patience.

And being filled with the Holy Spirit-produced patience, makes life so different. Not only does it make our life different, it also changes the lives of all those around us.

Why not take time right now to obey the five commands of Romans 6:11-13. One of the results will be the filling of the Holy Spirit. And one of the results of being filled with the Spirit is being filled with Holy Spirit-produced patience.

Then continue to be filled with the Spirit-and with patience.
