Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Expressing God's Love Visibly and Verbally

… present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and [present] your members as instruments of righteousness to God.  Romans 6:13b

These are the last two commands for being set free from law and being placed under grace. Obeying them we make ourselves available to God. With the words “as being alive from the dead,” we make ourselves available  as those who have been spiritually crucified, buried and resurrected. We have made our bodies available to God for Him to use as instruments through which to do righteous deeds.

Imagine this: John, who is a godly, but poor, fellow church member needs a part for his car so he can drive it again. You hear about it and the Lord impresses you to give John the fifty dollars that will pay for the part. You go to John and give him the money. John responds with, “Thank the Lord.” He believes that God sent the money. John then thanks you. You then say, “God loves you John.” In these events you have expressed the love of God visibly and audibly.

Take our imaginary affair one step further. John has a son who doubts that God loves him. John tells him what you have done for him. So now the son now has a visible and audible expression of the love of God.

Let us take our imaginary event even further. The son, in time, receives Jesus as Lord and Savior, partly because of the message of God’s love delivered to him by you. You have engaged in the work of evangelism.

While we have been using our imagination concerning the love of God, the reality of what we are imagining is taking place all over planet earth in the lives of believers who have made themselves available to God.

May the Holy Spirit abundantly increase these events in all parts of the earth for the glory of God and the blessing of people. May we be a part of this increase of effective ministry.
