Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Free from the World

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world.  1 John 2:15-16

In John 17:14, Jesus prays concerning His Apostles, “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

The word “world” in both of these statements is a reference to that mass of people who are not of God and do not walk in the ways of God. In John 17:6, Jesus’ prayer continues on this same theme, “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world.

The disciples of Jesus are not of the world and the world hates them.

Sadly, in recent years people have been saying, “You cannot tell the people of the church from the people who are not of the church.” That is so tragic. It is contrary to the purposes of God. It destroys the message of God’s Kingdom. Professing Christians are adopting the lifestyles of those who hate them. Professing Christians are adopting the culture of the world just to go along—not wanting to be out of style. You can easily think of many ways we have conformed to the lifestyles of the world? Evidently, many professing Christians are not spreading enough light to attract those of darkness to the light of Jesus.

In Romans 12:2 Paul writes, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed.” The transformation begins when we return to Jesus as Lord and to His word for guidance. His word will show us how we can experience the transformation.

Our transformation begins and continues with our daily living out the life of grace that God has provided.
