Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

God Has Blessed America

“Lord, you have been favorable to your land”   Psalm 85:2

July 4th is the day we as Americans reflect on our country’s founders declaring independence from Great Britain in 1776. It is also a day to give thanks to Almighty God for His blessings on this great country.

The Psalmist recognized that “favor” came from the Lord. In the first 3 verses of Psalm 85, he points out that “favor” included freedom from captivity, forgiveness of sin, sparing the people from His wrath and the fierceness of His anger.

The Lord has shown favor to our country by granting to us many rights and privileges including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Like the Psalmist, we must recognize that all blessings come from the Lord.

The writer of Proverbs says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” Proverbs 14:34

We become righteous when we place our faith and trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior and allow Him to live His life in and through us.

As we thank God for this great nation, let us also turn our hearts to Him, the “blessed and only potentate.” I Timothy 6:15
