Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

God's Blessings and Promises

… that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.  Galatians 3:14

Galatians 3:6 shows that the blessing of Abraham was his justification by faith. Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”

Then verses 8 and 9 say:

And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

Just as God justified Abraham—declared him to be righteous—by faith, all who receive Jesus as Lord and Savior receive the blessing of justification.

Genesis 15:6 says, “God counted Abraham righteous.” Genesis 15:7 reads, “Then He said to him, ‘I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.’” There were other promises, but Abraham had to wait more than 400 years to receive the promise of Genesis 15:6

When God declared us to be righteous, He knew we were not righteous. So He immediately gave us the promise of the Holy Spirit that we might become what He declared us to be (Galatians 3:14).

We grow in righteousness by continuing to be filled with the Holy Spirit as we continue to live out the five commands of Romans 6:11-13.
