Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

God's Eample for Our Churches

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.   Acts 2:42-47

This passage describes the first church following the day of Pentecost. Examine the passage and notice what was happening in this first church.

 1. They were continuing to receive doctrine from the Apostles.

 2. They were continuing in good fellowship.

 3. They were continuing to observe the Lord’s Supper.

 4. They were continuing to experience miracles.

 5. They were continuing to be generous with each other.

 6. They were continuing to witness in public.

 7. They were continuing in joy and simplicity of heart.

 8. They were continuing to be respected by the public.

 9. They were continuing to have conversions.

Those first days in the life of the first church serve as a model of what a church can be and do. That church was motivated, empowered and guided by the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Today’s churches can follow that model by continuing to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit through experiencing their oneness with Christ.
