Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Jesus' Body and Ours

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”   Matthew 26:26

After Jesus gave to His disciples the bread and told them that it represented His body, He gave to them the cup and said it represented His blood. Following this He gave an explanation concerning the purpose of the blood. He did not give a purpose of His body. Why was there no explanation of the purpose  of His body?

Hebrews 10:5 is a quotation of Psalm 40:6.

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.”

In the first part of the verse, Jesus refers to the blood offerings the priests of the Old Testament offered over and over. When He says in the last part of the verse, “a body you have prepared for me,” He implies that He will be the blood offering because God prepared for Him a body. There could not have been the shedding of blood if God had not prepared for Him a body.

Through access to our bodies God also ministers to others according to His desire.

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you … therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20

This gives meaning to Romans 6:13c which says, “[Present] your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” God brings glory to Himself when He has access to our bodies to bring blessings to others.
