Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Letters from Jesus

You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.  2 Corinthians 3:2-3

A common saying among evangelicals is, “Your life may be all the gospel that someone knows.” That is what portions of this verse is saying.

When Paul writes, “ministered by us,” he refers to his being God’s instrument of leading them to Christ.

Because some in Corinth responded to the message of salvation, the Holy Spirit took their new quality of life and wrote a letter to the hearts of some around them leading them to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is working that same way today.

We also can believe that the Holy Spirit can take the quality of life of the believer who walks in the Spirit and write letters in the hearts of both the lost and the saved.

One pastor, after listening to another pastor speak at a conference, asked the speaker how he had such a heart for God. The speaker told him about the message of grace. The Holy Spirit must have been writing a letter to the heart during the message of the speaker.

Every believer who is experiencing his oneness with Christ in crucifixion, burial and resurrection can know that God has given him two life-changing messages to share with others—how to become a Christian and how to grow as a Christian.

He also can know that by his life he gives the Holy Spirit the same two messages to write in the hearts of others.
