Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Made Rich by Two Poor Men

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9

… as poor yet making many rich ... 2 Corinthians 6:10

When Jesus left heaven to come to earth, He never ceased to be God. Theologians say He was God-man. Yet, in several places, the New Testament refers to Jesus simply as a man.

The 2 Corinthians 6:10 passage is a statement Paul makes about himself.

Just leaving heaven to come to earth was leaving all the riches of heaven to take on the life of a human being. All the suffering Jesus endured added to the poverty.

In addition to that, both Matthew and Luke record Jesus saying, “Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests but the Son of man has nowhere to lay His head.”

In 2 Corinthians 11:17 Paul writes about himself, “… in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.”

The poor Jesus made possible the riches of our crucified, buried and resurrected life by His crucifixion, burial and resurrection as the last Adam. The poor Apostle Paul made known to the Christian world what the poor Jesus had made possible.

You and I can be God’s instruments in turning the spiritual poverty of some believers into the riches Jesus made possible and Paul made known. We can pray for those who do not know the message. As the Holy Spirit leads, we can teach the message.
