Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Ongoing Visible Declaration of the Gospel

… always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.  2 Corinthians 4:10-11

In baptism, we visibly declare the gospel. This is a one time act. Paul’s statement in 2 Corinthians 4:10-11 reveals that God uses us to participate in an ongoing visible declaration of the gospel. Verses 8 and 9 explain God’s way of using our bodies for this ongoing declaration.

We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed … 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

When we are hard pressed, perplexed, persecuted and struck down, in our bodies we are carrying about the dying of the Lord Jesus.

When we are hard pressed but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed,. in our bodies we make visible the resurrection of Jesus.

The victories of not being crushed, not being in despair, not forsaken and not destroyed are ours by grace through faith. In this case, we place ourselves under grace just as we place ourselves under grace by living out the five directives of Romans 6:11-13.

Some see all suffering as being the result of sin. It is true that some suffering is the result of sin. However, some suffering is our opportunity to present to a lost world the gospel message of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
