But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.  1 Corinthians 2:9-10

First Corinthians 2:9-14 could be called a hidden treasure. Those verses constitute one of the greatest passages on the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Yet, they are not often quoted.

Occasionally, you hear someone quote or read 1 Corinthians 2:9 and then follow with, “There is no way that we can know the things God has prepared for us.” However, verse 10 says that we can know. “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” Some believers are never satisfied with their present knowledge of God and His gifts. Perhaps “the deep things of God” are the truths revealed to the ones who are never satisfied with what they know of God and His gifts. They hunger for more.

Verses 11 and 12 declare, “… no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” Our only hope for growing in the knowledge of God and his gifts is our being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Verse 13 says, “These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” Note the words, “comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” These words can be translated “uniting spiritual truths with spiritual people.” The spiritual people are those who are filled with the Holy Spirit. This is confirmed with words from verse 14“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” As one is filled with the knowledge of the promises of God, he grows in faith.

This passage should motivate any child of God to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit. Obey continually the 5 statements below and be continually filled with the Holy Spirit and the truths He reveals.
