Proclaiming the Virgin Birth

“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, {are} in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.  John 17:20-21

One of the foundational truths of the Christian life and the Christian movement is the truth that God sent Jesus who was born of the Virgin Mary. At Christmas time the truth of the virgin birth of Jesus is proclaimed over and over.

Pastors preach about it. Sunday school teachers teach about it. Adults, youth, and children participate in dramas proclaiming the message. Choirs, orchestras, congregations, and soloists tell the story through music.

Jesus reveals in His prayer recorded in John 17 that there is an effective way to proclaim His virgin birth without words. When the prayer of Jesus is answered, churches proclaim the virgin birth of Jesus silently and continuously.

Jesus asked the Father to bring His followers into a spirit of oneness so that the message may go forth that He, the Father, had sent Him. It is a spirit of oneness between believers that proclaims the virgin birth of Jesus silently and continuously.

Jesus must have had reference to all believers being one. The most observable expression of oneness between believers is in local congregations. However, when a spirit of oneness does not exist in a local church, our Lord is dishonored and the silent and continuous proclamation of the virgin birth of Jesus is hindered.

Each member of each church carries a responsibility to be God’s instrument in creating a spirit of oneness in his church. But what can one member do to be effective in creating a spirit of oneness?

The one thing each member can do that will make him effective in being an instrument of oneness is experiencing his oneness with Christ.

A church of believers experiencing their oneness with Christ will be in a spirit of oneness and will silently and continuously proclaim the message that Jesus was born of a virgin.
