Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Where Is Truth to Be Found?

For truth is fallen in the street      Isaiah 59:14

In the days of Isaiah, deceit was prevalent. Perhaps to some extent this has been true of every generation in all places. However, there are times when deceit is more prevalent than at other times.

Here in the United States there is a saying that goes like this: “There was a time when a man’s word was his bond.” The person saying that means that when such a person makes a promise, he will keep his word. At this time, it seems that not a day goes by that we don’t read in the paper or see on the newscasts stories of people who have been caught in some act of deceit.

We hear of fraud in the business world and even in the educational world involving millions of dollars. We hear the same in all levels of government. Even in church circles some practice dishonesty.

We believers grieve when we hear of such activities. We grieve for the guilty ones and for their families. What grief a child and wife must go through when father and husband are exposed for fraud and even sent to prison.

There is help for born again believers who are tempted to be a part of such a life. In John 14:17, 15:26 and 16:13, Jesus calls the Holy Spirit “The Spirit of truth.” He will guide us into all truth. Among many other things, the Holy Spirit will guide us to speak the truth. Our generation needs the leadership of the Holy Spirit

Because the Spirit of truth lives in all believers, we are able to escape the temptation to be deceitful. We only need to be under the Spirit’s control—and we can be.

When we live out our oneness with Christ (Romans 6:11-13), we are under grace (Romans 6:14). To be under grace is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Try it!
